The man at the helm here at BRINKmedia, Danny Vinik, will have his documentary featured at the Denver Film Festival next month! The film looks at life along the border-the literal line between Mexico and Arizona and also between life and death. Originally intended to be a concert film, desert noir band Calexico’s performance to their hometown crowd provides a fittingly moody backdrop but the movie delves into heftier subject matter. Weaving together local journalists, artists and authors words and scenes from near the border, laced with imagery of death and conflict, Vinik comments on American immigration laws. You can get more information about the film festival and screening times here.
As the newest member of BRINKmedia, I am just now discovering the myriad of projects Danny has been involved in. I recently heard about the feature film Danny made called ”TV Party,” which documented a public access show from late 70’s, early 80’s in New York. Debbie Harry, Jean-Michel Basquiat, David Bowie, George Clinton all make appearances. I recently went through a binder of notes on the episodes and descriptions like “Glenn and guests discuss NY Post, death by ice” and “Brides of Frankenstein, brides speak” intrigued me. So this weekend I will be checking out a copy.
